4 simple steps to add the Vallarta Botanical Garden as a beneficiary in your Will or Trust

“A society grows great when old men (and women!) plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit.” – Greek Proverb

By making the Vallarta Botanical Garden a beneficiary in your Will or Trust, you are leaving a truly philanthropic legacy, exemplifying your values and lifetime commitment to conservation, education and horticultural excellence. Your gift to the Garden is hugely appreciated and will have a positive impact that will benefit many generations to come.

Recently, we have been asked about how to add the Garden as the beneficiary of such a gift. It can seem like a complicated or even daunting thing to do, but is actually quite straightforward. To help make this process as easy and clear as possible, we have created 4 simple steps that you can follow to leave a gift to the Garden. These apply for leaving a gift in both the USA and Canada. The steps for leaving a gift in Mexico are similar. However, the language and information needed vary slightly. Please get in touch with us for guidance around this.

Step 1

Let us know that you are considering leaving a gift to us. We would like to be on hand to help in any way possible, to answer questions and provide you with all the information you need to add us to your Will or Trust. Please contact Chris Jacobs, Head of Development at [email protected] or phone on +52 322 137 1890.

Step 2

Please take note of our registered name as a US 501(c)(3) non-profit organization: Friends of Vallarta Botanical Garden AC. This is the exact name you will need to include in your Will or Trust. You will also need to include our EIN, which is 331156194. Tome nota de nuestro nombre registrado como organización sin fines de lucro en México: Vallarta Botanical Gardens AC. Este es el nombre exacto que deberá incluir en su testamento o fideicomiso. También deberá incluir nuestro RFC: VBG060725J16.

Step 3

Decide which type of Gift you would like to leave to us. You have options!. For example, you might want to leave a Pecuniary gift (a set amount of money), a Residuary Gift (a % of your estate) or a Specific gift (a specific object, asset or property). his is when you should speak to your estate planning attorney, to decide on which type of Gift works best for you.

Step 4

Go ahead and add the Vallarta Botanical Garden to your Will or Trust. You might want to use the following types of language:

I give and devise to Friends of Vallarta Botanical Garden Ac, EIN 33-1156194, located in Mill Valley, CA, the sum of $ to be used for its general support (or for the support of a specific program).

I give and devise to Friends of Vallarta Botanical Garden Ac, EIN 33-1156194, located in Mill Valley, CA, all (or a percentage) of the rest, residual and remainder of my estate, both real and personal, to be used for its general support (or for the support of a specific program).

Again, please ask your estate planning attorney to advise you on this. We are here to help in any way possible and are always happy to hop on a Zoom call to discuss things with you and your attorney!

Thank you so much for your generosity.
