Did you know that some hummingbirds migrate thousands of miles? This is the case of the Ruby-throated Hummingbird, which spends the winter in Central America, Mexico, and Florida, migrating to Canada and other parts of North America to breed during the summer.
In Mexico, the Ruby-throated Hummingbird lives in temperate forests and mainly in deciduous vegetation (where trees lose their leaves during the dry season). It is also found in forest edges, orchards, and gardens.

Males are distinguished by their red and black throat, greenish upperparts, grayish-white belly, and dark tail. In contrast, females have a green upperpart and whitish tones on the lower part.
These hummingbirds frequently visit artificial feeders and flower gardens. It is one of the most charismatic species that you could observe while walking along our trails at the Vallarta Botanical Garden.
