Nelson Orchid

Aulosepalum nelsonii

By: Biol. Jesús Manuel Peinado Arellano

I bloom in the spring and am one of the first flowers of the season, so I provide plenty of food for all the bees and butterflies that have been waiting during the winter. My presence in the garden not only beautifies the surroundings with my delicate petals of vibrant colors, but also plays a vital role in the ecosystem.

I am Aulosepalum nelsonii, also known as the “Nelson Orchid“. An endemic species of the mountainous regions of Mexico, I can grow among rocks, wherever I receive enough light and humidity to thrive. My flowers have a sweet and attractive scent that matches my tiny white flowers.

In addition to my ecological importance, I am appreciated for my beauty and resistance. Although I can be demanding regarding my growing conditions, my ability to adapt to different environments makes me special, come meet me at the Vallarta Botanical Garden.
