From the United States of America and the east coast of Canada, the Green Heron arrives, fleeing the winter. It migrates as far as Panama and northern South America. It is a solitary bird, but monogamous, perfect for this Valentine’s Day to tell that person you love: you are my little green heron.
It inhabits streams and wetlands. In the garden we have caught it in our ponds catching fish and frogs to then lift them into the air to its nest 1.5-9 m high, sometimes luring them with small baits. They also feed on snakes, worms, snails and small rodents.
