Orchids are the most diverse group of plants in the world, and proof of this is the continuous discovery of new species in recent years. Such is the case of Prosthechea sanchezii, which was published in December 2024. It is a “Clamshell Orchid” endemic to Mexico (Chiapas and Oaxaca) and Guatemala (Huehuetenango and Quetzaltenango).
This fragrant orchid blooms and fruits several times throughout the year and has been considered in the category of Least Concern under the criteria of the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Most orchids of the Prosthechea genus have a sweet and volatile aroma. In our Botanical Garden you can purchase some of these species. The next time you visit us, stop by our Gift Shop
