Executive Director

- Implements the strategic goals of the Gardens
- Provides leadership in line with the Garden’s mission
- Supports operation of the Board and its committees
- Coordinates communication between the Board & staff
- Oversees design, promotion, & delivery of Garden programs & services
- Recommends yearly budget for Board approval & prudently manages Garden resources within those guidelines & according to current laws and regulations
- Effectively manages the human resources of the Gardens according to personnel policies & procedures that conform to current law and regulations
- Assures that the Gardens and its mission, programs and services are presented in a positive manner locally, nationally, and abroad
- Oversees fundraising planning, implementation, records, and follow-up
Staff Biologist
$16,000/yr (full time)
- Responsible for identification, labeling, cataloging, and accessioning plants in the Gardens’ collections
- Reviews all Garden publications for technical accuracy
- Oversees and maintains records for all research at the Gardens and any research grants awarded to the Gardens including offsite as applicable
- Seeks funding for Garden research and other grant opportunities
- Shares the results of research and status of Garden collections with the public by teaching classes and workshops writing articles for the Garden’s newsletter
Education Coordinator
$14,000/yr (full time)
- Coordinates and helps guide all school tours at the Gardens
- Recruits, trains & supports volunteer docents and gardeners
- Manages volunteer projects
- Develops Gardens’ outreach program in the local community (esp. schools)
- Manages Gardens’ library and seeks donations of books and other resources
- Develops the Gardens’ online educational resources
- Runs the Garden’s Summer Camps
- Shares Membership Services Responsibilities with Events Coordinator
Events Coordinator
$14,000/yr (full time)
- Coordinates and promotes Garden classes, workshops, and events
- Updates the Gardens online social media sites on a daily basis
- Sends press releases to local and international media on a weekly basis
- Plans, budgets and sets up for events, then follows up with reporting
- Shares Membership Services Responsibilities with Events Coordinator
Webmaster & Technology Supporter
$6,000 (part time, 12 hrs/week)
- Updates Gardens’ website & Facebook accounts weekly (Spanish & English)
- Designs and posts the Garden’s monthly “Leaflet” newsletter
- Is available by phone and online for technical support to Garden staff
- Makes onsite visits to the Gardens as needed to troubleshoot, install, repair, or replace garden equipment and/or software
- Manages Gardens’ technology accounts
- Processes online financial transactions
Translator
$6,000 (part time, 20 hrs/week)
- Translates content for all garden publications including website, newsletter, press releases, social media ect., from Spanish to English or vica versa.
- Translates technical material such as botanical research
- Translates onsite during Garden events and classes
Staff Development at AMJB Conference
$4,000
- Allows up to 5 garden staff to attend the annual AMJB Conference (AMJB: Asociación Mexicana de Jardines Botánicos; Mexican Association of Botanical Gardens)
- Garden staff will participate in training opportunities to further the Garden
- Garden staff will build and cultivate important connections at botanical gardens throughout Mexico to help support the mission of the VBG
Staff Development at APGA Conference
$7,000
- Allows up to 4 garden staff to attend the annual APGA Conference (APGA: American Public Garden Association)
- Garden staff will participate in training opportunities to further the Garden
- Garden staff will build and cultivate important connections at botanical gardens throughout N. America to help support the mission of the VBG
